The Return of the Major... [2 January 2011]
To begin, a few words of contrition: I fully intended not to write the news for the past week, but should've forecast that instead of reviewed it. My bad. Onto the events!
As The Hobbserver correctly predicted a month ago, the Horned Frogs of TCU proved that their speedy confusion style of defense is enough to hold any offense down, even a Wisconsin offense that had accumulated a couple hundred points in the three games leading up to the Rose Bowl; confusingly, late in the fourth quarter, Wisconsin went away from running back John Clay and attempted a pass for the potentially game-tying two-point conversion; defensive MVP Tank Carder swatted the pass out of the air, and the first-ever non-AQ school invited to the Rose Bowl edged the Badgers 21-19.....The Big Ten showed far worse in the Capital One Bowl where Alabama septupled up Michigan State 49-7; Mark Ingram set the Alabama record for touchdowns, then took a seat so as not to further embarrass the Spartans.....The misery rolled for the Midwest as Penn State blew a 3rd-quarter lead and gave up 20 unanswered points in losing to the Gators, 37-24.....We're not done, B1G fans! Michigan scored first, then was outscored 52-7 by Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl; it was the worst-ever bowl loss for the Wolverines and will likely (i.e. should) cost Rich Rodriguez his job.....If anyone thinks TCU won't dominate the Big East, just speak up; Basketball's toughest conference sent UConn to the Fiesta Bowl where they were dismantled by Oklahoma, 48-20, in a game that wasn't as close as the score suggests.....The Bulls won their 13th of the last 15, beating up on yet another poor team in the Cavs; the Bulls were somehow underwhelming in a 100-91 win behind Derrick Rose's 28 points and 11 assists.....Kevin Love tallied his 20th consecutive double-double against the Nets in a 103-88 Minnesota victory.....At ease.
