5-minute Major [7 January 2011]

A school record 70.5 percent from the field was much too much for the improved Wildcats to handle, losing to the Illini 88-63; Mike Davis had a career-high 7 assists to go with as many rebounds and 12 points.....Crosstown Shootout, or something like that; the yet-to-be-taken-seriously Bearcats hung an extra 20 on the Musketeers, 66-46; this should mean quite a bit, given this rivalry produces close ones even when one of the teams is awful.....The Wild won their 3rd straight and again it started with the power play; the team that once was penalty killers, now loves to score on the power play; if they can limit the losing bursts Minnesota could be a playoff team come spring.....Neither the Blues nor the Leafs felt like playing defense Thursday night and skated to a 5-5 tie at the end of regulation; but Toronto tried a bit harder and won in the shootout.....Edgar Renteria took his ball and went home; the shortstop reportedly signed with the Reds after receiving a lowball offer from the Giants.....And that's it; today was about as slow as the day before the MLB All-Star game.....At ease.
