5-minute Major [9 December 2010]

The White Sox managed to work it out with Paul Konerko (see post below or click here) to the tune of 3 years/$37.5 million.....5th District of Illinois Representative Mike Quigley gave a nice memorial speech for Ron Santo on the House Floor (Santo was a guy who would've loved that while denying he deserved it).....One can only assume Coaches Krzyzewski, Izzo, Self, and Calipari hate the concept of an undefeated season as their respective colleges announced today that they will play a two-game Champions Classic every year for the next three years; next year's inaugural matchups will be MSU/Duke and Kansas/Kentucky.....shattering playoff hopes, corner Alphonso Smith and end Kyle Vanden Bosch were placed on the Lions IR.....The Bucks beat the Pacers on the best play of the night: an Andrew Bogut tip-in off an inbounds pass as time expired.....The Badgers led wire-to-wire in their 18th-straight win against UW-Milwaukee; can we really call them rivals?.....Brett Favre will throw again on Thursday; heaven help the Vikings without him.....Cheers to Joe Fulce and Marquette on Fulce's knee injury not being career-ending.....In maybe the most exciting college basketball play of the night, with 5.6 seconds left, Mizzou guard Marcus Denmon poked a pass away and chased it down for the deciding layup over Vanderbilt.....Ohio State apparently sold a portion of its Sugar Bowl tickets to Arkansas fans, after not selling their allotment for the second time in three years.....Indians great and Hobbserver favorite, Bob Feller, has been moved to hospice; thoughts to him and his family.....
